    4 Sales Viewing Report - Thurs 17th September

    Last Friday saw the return of Gogglebox at 9pm which had S16 launch with 3.76 million viewers, the biggest audience to a launch episode since Series 7 in Feb 2016. The launch took a 34% share of 1634s which is up 33% on the slot average!

    Thanks to Location: 20 Years and Counting at 8pm and new launch Council House Britain at 9pm on Thursday C4 were the biggest Commercial Channel for 1634 Share in late peak.

    Monday’s 7pm News took a 15.7% 1634 share which was the 2nd highest ever for the 7pm show and the biggest since 2005! Additionally, Lodgers for Codgers, Cats Does Countdown, Food Unwrapped Does Snacks and Call the Cops all won their slot for 1634s last week. Since Lockdown began Channel 4's late peak (2000-2300) share of 1634's is up 30% year-on-year which is in stark contrast to Commercial TV (exc. C4) which is down -8%.

    We have seen increases in all areas across our schedule since the lockdown period began. Most notably with 1634s, Channel 4 has delivered the biggest year on year uplift to audiences here, with an increase of 20% compared to an average decline of 3% among all over commercial channels (excluding C4)

    Since Lockdown began (week commencing 16th March) Channel 4's late peak (2000-2300) share of 1634's at 11.6% is up 36% year-on-year. This is in stark contrast to Commercial TV (exc. Channel 4) which is down -9% year-on-year.

    Channel 4’s 1634 viewership has significantly outperformed the rest of the commercial market seeing an impressive 23% uplift since the start of the pandemic. For the 19th consecutive week, representing the entire Lockdown period, Channel 4 won the Friday late peak slot for 1634s. Through the Lockdown Period Channel 4 has accounted for 15 of the Top 30 Shows for 1634 viewership across Commercial TV.

    Channel 4’s viewing performance for young audiences across the pandemic has been hugely impressive. Whilst the rest of the commercial market has seen a downturn in 1634 viewing, Channel 4 has experienced a 24% uplift since the start of the UK lockdown in March.

    This week, the nation marked 100 days since the start of the UK COVID lockdown – the moment when many aspects of normal life were significantly changed for us all. Since the start of that lockdown, TV viewing has seen increases in viewing – with Channel 4 seeing a greater increase than the rest of the commercial marketplace – rising 18% for all individuals versus the market rise of 10%.
